  • SWAN

The Southwestern Association of Naturalists.  This is my favorite smaller society and it is dedicated to the field study of the flora and fauna, extant and extinct, of the southwestern U.S., Mexico, and Central America.  It is international and has a heavy Latin involvement.  It publishes the journal The Southwestern Naturalist and meets annually in its region (every third year in Mexico or Central America).  It is very inexpensive to join and attend meetings, yet has a lot of professional advantages, especially for students.
